English Grammar  A - An - The 

 

It is so common that people get a, an, & the confused. We will clear that problem up right now, so you will understand when to use a, an & the.

A , An & The - Indefinite Article - are used with non-specific singular nouns
  • I want a pen. - any pen
  • I am going to rent a car. - any car
  • I want an apple. - any apple
  • I need a car. - any car
The - Definite Article - is used with singular & plural specific nouns or nouns that are one of a kind
  • I want the green pen. - specific pen
  • The girls want to rent the small car. - a specific car
  • I want the red apple. - a specific apple
  • We are going on the red boat. - a specific boat
